I. Introduction and History:

Founded in 1985, the Wellmike Enterprises Company, LTD is a 22-year old business specializing in safety and security products, car accessories, electronic and innovative gadgets, and gift and promotion/premium items. There are currently three offices in Hong Kong, Shenzhen China (factory), and Taipei (head office). Mr. Chen states that he " likes "people to work as a team." While he is an experienced businessman, he trusts his company, his team, "to lead itself. " Hoping to now open a new office in Los Angeles, Wellmike shows no signs of slowing in this new millennium.

II. Capability, Capacity, and Volume

Between the factory the Shenzhen, China, an office in Hong Kong, and the head office in Taipei, Wellmike houses a dedicated team of industrial, mechanical, and electronic engineers. These persons, in combination with designers and three sales teams (one at each office), have created a successful company capable of designing, developing and manufacturing, mold-making, and tooling. In this manner, Wellmike is an extremely versatile company with experts in several different branches of the small electronics market. Wellmike, with its personnel and manufacturing capabilities, is the solution to your OEM/ ODM requests.

Our factory production and size determine our volume. The China office (K), located in Shenzhen, China, is composed of two factory buildings. The larger building (5500 square meters)houses an office equipped with sales and engineering teams. The smaller building (3000 square meters) is another factory. Between the two buildings are several different machines and 6 production lines. The machine checklist (inventory) is as follows:

III. From Ideas to the Store Shelf:

Creating new products often originates with Mr. Chen himself. His business know-how and expertise enables him to create hundreds of profitable items. These original ideas are relayed to our Taipei based Research and Development (R&D) team composed of designers, engineers, and sales personnel. These persons are essential to the future product's success. While interpreting the consumer market, the R&D department is acutely aware of each product's efficiency and coherence with international regulations (ISO). Depending upon the specific product, designers much be knowledgeable of radio frequency limitations (FCC/CE), possible circuit/design layouts, micro controllers, DSP applications, and computer input/output cards.

The chief industrial designer for Wellmike, takes the fledging ideas and creates a design for the product utilizing Pro-Engineer and other 3-D computer software. After the design has been approved by the engineers and by the sales team, the design moves to the engineering table.
While these originally designed items can be custom made, we are also capable of Oriented Engineering Manufacturing (OEM) and/or Oriented Design Manufacturing (ODM). OEM utilizes a client's planned out design and/or product to engineer and manufacture a new product. ODM, on the other hand, requires our designers to create a product based on the specifications of a client. While ODM may use one of our preexisting templates, both OEM and ODM embody more than simply custom manufacturing. They require creating new molds in our factories.

After the Industrial Design (Original, OEM, or OEM) has been completed and approved by the engineers and/or by the client (OEM/ODM projects), the engineers assume responsibility for the next stage of development. They give feedback on our capabilities in creating a specific product and/or in accomplishing the order. This feedback is accessed at a coordinating meeting between the industrial designers (ID), the mechanical designers (ME), and the electrical engineers (EE). The coordinating meeting ultimately determines if the product is capable of being tooled.

After the meeting, if the products are able to be tooled, the EEs decide how to accomplish (estimate the size of the PC board) the project. This information is passed to the ID people for graphic assembly drawings. The MEs must then decide if the ID's design is functional and if the EEs can use it. After the MEs finish, the EEs wire the product. A mock-up sample may be made at this point outside of our factory, depending upon our client's specifications.

Now the process embarks upon mold-making. A CAD (Cash Against Document) is sent from Taipei to the mold-maker. These instructions include the positioning of the cavities on the mold. Because of our adherence to standards, tooling is often a tedious element of product development. After tooling, a pilot run of the prototypes is necessary for quality control purposes. Quality control is a key player in this stage of product development. The quality control will be tested again on the completed products in the factory by a quality control machine. After the tooling is deemed satisfactory, the prototypes are given to sales representatives for further marketing. Once the mold is delivered to our Shenzhen, China based factory, mass production assembly can proceed. Afterwards, deliveries are made to the respective customers.

Wellmike exports to numerous markets. Currently, North America controls 35% of our business. 30% of our exports are given to European nations. Japan sees 20% of our business. Central and South America currently have 5% of our business. Other countries in the world comprise the remaining 10%.

IV. The Future of Wellmike

As Wellmike enters the new millennium, improvement will always remain a priority. Our products will continue to be scrutinized to insure the highest quality. Improving the integration between the quality control, the designing, and the manufacturing departments is a continual effort. Having a factory in China and the head office in Taiwan forces these persons to act in the most efficient manner possible. As workers in the factories are trained to be more professional, this efficiency will naturally increase.

As of now, Wellmike has already passed ISO9002 in November of 1999. We are now working towards complying with the requirements of the ISO9001. In order to do this, we plan to set up a continuous, annual, quality promoting program for IQC (Incoming Quality Control), IPQC (In process quality control), and QR (Quality Reassurance).

The expansion to Los Angeles is an endeavour consistent with the style that makes Wellmike successful. Mr. Chen is strongly confident in the American market and insists that an office there will increase Wellmike's service capabilities. While Wellmike currently has many working relationships with American companies such as Masterlock, Radio Shack, and MACE, having an office within their country will strengthen these ties. Wellmike is devoted to creating high-quality, life-enhancing (facilitating) products, with the best service available. These goals outline Wellmike's future.
